On the September 18th edition of “Off the Cuff,” we were fortunate enough to be joined by Bryan Levine of Sun Newspapers, new Booker High head football coach and former Florida State Seminole Dumaka Atkins, and play-by-play announcer Nate March, who is fresh off calling the Bradenton Marauders’ 2016 Florida State League championship season.
Levine, a graduate of the University of Central Florida, catches us up on the high school football scene in Charlotte County and tells us a little bit about his background. His segment begins at 15:22.
Atkins, who took over the football program at his high school Alma matter in the third week of the regular season, talked about the challenges he and the Booker football program face, growing up as the son of Sarasota’s mayor, and what it was like playing at Florida State during the final years of the Bobby Bowden. Atkins’ segment begins at 42:26.
Our final guest of the show was March, who has spent the past five seasons with the Marauders. Here are highlights of the Marauders’ 2016 Florida State League championship run with March’s call of the final out in the title-clinching win over Tampa: courtesy of milb.com. March spoke about some of the players he has worked with during his time with the Marauders, his play-by-play experience, and the differences in the sporting cultures of his native upstate New York and the Suncoast. The interview begins at 1:22:00.
