The No. 2 nationally ranked IMG Academy Ascenders (9-0) traveled across Florida to take on Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna Lions (7-3). The Ascenders controlled the contest from start to finish and recorded a second consecutive defensive shutout, cruising to a 43-0 win.
Leading the way offensively was Ascenders QB Kellen Mond who accounted for four total touchdowns on the afternoon. Mond threw for two scores with TE Tre McKitty and WR Jhamon Ausbon on the receiving end. The two passing touchdowns bring Mond’s season total to 18, matching the Ascenders’ single-season and career mark, last reached by Shea Patterson in 2015. Patterson is now at the University of Mississippi.
Mond also notched two more rushing touchdowns in the win, bringing his season total to 15. The Texas A&M commit now only needs one more rushing touchdown to tie the single season total of 16 set by Bo Scarbrough during the inaugural 2013 season. Scarbrough is currently in the tailback rotation for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The IMG Academy defense racked up its fourth shutout of the season. Remarkably, all four shutouts have occurred over the past five games, with only Jacksonville Trinity Christian having scored on the Ascenders since St. John’s College High School on Sept. 17.
The Ascenders return to action on Saturday, Nov 12. for their final home game against Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy (9-1). It is senior night for the Ascenders who look to keep up a 27-game winning streak. Kickoff at IMG Academy Stadium is scheduled for 7 PM EST.
