NEW YORK (Nov. 11, 2016) – The North American Soccer League (NASL) unveiled its 2016 Best XI on Friday morning, which includes Rowdies midfielder Joe Cole. The former Chelsea FC and West Ham United player joined the Rowdies on May 4 and played in 24 matches, scoring nine goals and picking up seven assists.
Since signing for Tampa Bay on May 4, Cole has made his mark, proving himself to be an elite talent in the NASL. His nine goals finished second-highest on the team, behind only Georgi Hristov’s 11. Cole led the team with seven assists, the second-most of any player in the NASL. Only Carolina’s Nazmi Albadawi had more assists (10), though Cole played four fewer games.
Cole’s season included an amazing bicycle kick goal, which landed on the top spot of on SportsCenter’s Top 10, and a screamer against Indy Eleven, both making international headlines.
