Future international soccer superstars on display in Lakewood Ranch

A top-level international soccer competition will get underway at the Premier Sports Complex at Lakewood Ranch on Wednesday with the first of three doubleheaders.

The 2016 Nike Friendlies, which have been played in the area since 2011, will feature the Under-17 national teams from the United States, Brazil, Portugal and Turkey. Turkey and Brazil will play in the first match of the competition at 3:30 p.m., while the U.S. will take on Portugal at 7 p.m.

Current U.S. Men’s National Team players Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley, along with Neymar and Marcelo of Brazil, have played in past Nike Friendlies.

Brazil and Portugal will play in Friday’s opener at 3:30 p.m., with the U.S. and Brazil playing the nightcap at 7 p.m. The pool-play competition closes on Sunday with Turkey-Portugal and Brazil-U.S. playing at 1:30 and 5 p.m., respectively.
